So as many of you have already
heard, Peterborough suffered quite a bit of excitement yesterday.
Luckily, Len and I stayed high and dry, for once! But many other people
were not so lucky. I've posted a few pics that we took yesterday
after the flood, well after the waters had subsided but it gives you an idea
of the devastation that the water has caused. We only wondered a couple
of blocks near the downtown and as the photos show it was pretty bad.
I ran a quick errand up Hunter to George and most of the area was a
complete disaster. The poor Grassroots cafe completely lost their
patio, The Gordon Best/Only Cafe suffered a partial collapse and the
water marks are knee high on the sidewalk. Apparently many residences
still have no hydro and are unable to pump out until the city oks that
it can hold the water.
Tomorrow on our way out of the city, I'll be swinging by Crawford
drive, the hardest hit area of the city, and taking some more pics. Len
and I saw it last night and we couldn't believe the mess it had made of
the neighborhood, never mind what we couldn't see inside peoples homes.
In the meantime, check out Dan Eagleton's website for some more pictures. He was out earlier and longer than Len and I were.
