Jamie and I have made a pact to shop for bathings suits together this season....that is, assuming of course, we were not drunk at the time - to decide to wear bathing suits this year, or that we won't conveniently get lost on the way to the store and end up at the pub!
Out of curiousity, I checked out the Land's End website, I had heard they had a build your suit option. (too bad its not a build your body option!) They try to charm you by choosing different styles and colour options, it lulls you into that false sense of security that you haven't spent most of the winter, butt on couch, knitting in front of the t.v.
But then it hits you, in the descriptive text for the one you've chosen (worn of course by a slim model on a beach!) this bathingsuit isn't going to fix anything! Not when the text says stuff like, "styling flatters your shoulders" or "V-neck flatters your face" That's their code for, "Your screwed, its already the end of April, what were you thinking eating your kids entire chocolate rabbit!"
Maybe this late winter will buy me some time!

Colourfool inspired me on how to make Caleb a puppet theatre that was portable - mostly because we rent, but also, alot of times he likes to hang out with us in the livingroom. I wanted to make something that wouldn't take up alot of space in his bedroom, either. The ribbons are pretty, but I thought Caleb would get a kick out of something more manly - hence the ties. I tied them so that they look like they've been tied with a proper windsor knot, but its really just draped over the rod, pick up the skinny end then bring it round the back, round to the front, round to the back for a full circle, bring it up the back, then tuck it in through the loop at the front to make the knot.
The rod is from Home Depot, I looked at the cafe curtain rods, but settled on a shower curtain rod instead. The difference is that the shower curtain rod turns to extend to fit any doorway up to 40". All of our doors and closets range from 30" to 40" so this allowed maximum flexibility to move it around the house. The rod also allows the ties to be adjusted to different heights. When Caleb isn't playing with it we put it at the top of the doorframe and it makes a short doorway to his room, a bit of privacy, but it also hides some of the mess too. When its down, it's his puppet theatre, peek-a-boo wall, he loves running through it...and I'm sure like Colorfool's daughter he'll be doing his ghostly, "Boo's! through it too!" I'm copying the disclaimer as well - don't leave your tots alone with long strips of fabric/ribbon/ties-no, strangulation please.) Wednesday, April 4

You Know you knit too much when...
You show up at your favorite yarn shop's huge annual sale and before you can go in and shop with the other knitters, the owner takes you aside to remind you that she doesn't want a repeat of what happened last year. You seek out forms of excercise that you can do while knitting, such as riding a stationary bike. You hear about a breed of minature sheep that grow to be only 16 inches in height and weigh only 50 pounds and immediately start trying to figure out whether you can convince your spouse its a dog. Before you buy anything such as a hammock or curtains you seriously wonder whether you could knit it. (See my future post on the baby gate made from Bernat cotton!) Without your knitting, you feel lonely. |
